Which alarm system should I choose?

In this article we look in full at the type of alarm system you need to stay safe. We cover everything from homes and business premises to the various options such as an alarm receiving centre, a SIM card and any subscriptions.

You are welcome to read this whole article, but our customer service will also gladly help you put together a suitable alarm system. View all alarm systems or the Ajax alarm system here.

Different types of alarm systems

First of all, it is important to know that there are three different types of alarm systems, each with its own advantages and disadvantages.

  1. Wireless alarm system

+ Easy to install (no need to run cables)
+ Flexible placement and easier to expand
– Batteries need to be replaced at regular intervals
– Wireless range is not unlimited. The further apart the devices are, the weaker the signal.

The Ajax BaseLine is an example of a fully wireless alarm system.

  1. Wired alarm system

+ More reliable than wireless, no risk of interference from other wireless signals
+ No hassle with batteries for sensors
– More difficult and more expensive to install
– Less easy to modify or move

The Ajax Superior alarm system is a fully wired alarm system.

  1. Hybrid alarm system

+ Combines the reliability of wired systems with the flexibility of a wireless alarm system
+ Suitable for both new and existing buildings
– More expensive to install than a wireless alarm system

The Ajax Fibra is a hybrid alarm system with wireless and wired components.

Ajax alarm system

We kick off with our favourite alarm system, because where else should we start? We are so satisfied with it that we have made an Ajax alarm system review.

The Ajax alarm system.

Superior in everything they do. From the moment it is produced until it is mounted in your home. The best thing about the Ajax alarm system is that it is so flexible.

All components are reliable and mostly wireless. Only the central control panels and the Ajax cameras (PoE) are wired, but this is also necessary for the system to work properly. All other components that are more visible are wireless. Think of:

  • Wireless control devices

With the wireless control devices you arm or disarm the alarm system. This can of course also be done on the central control panel itself. But if you do not want to share the codes for it, you can disarm the system with a tag, pass or keypad.

  • Wireless smoke, CO and fire detectors

The Ajax fire detection components are fully equipped to detect all types of hazard. Depending on the fire detector, they have different features.

  1. Smoke detector gives a notification when smoke has been detected.
  2. A heat detector raises an alert when the temperature rises by 10° within a minute, which is useful when a fire starts from synthetic materials (without smoke) or smouldering material.
  3. The carbon monoxide detector raises an alert when 300 ppm is detected in less than 3 minutes. Carbon monoxide is a silent killer: you cannot hear, smell or see it coming. Protect yourself.
  • Wireless motion detectors

A motion detector sends you a notification immediately when movement is detected. Do you only want to receive an alert? Or do you also want instant photo verification? Suitable for both indoor and outdoor use, so you can also use it to secure entire business premises.

  • Wireless magnetic contacts

Magnetic contacts are still the best way to catch burglars. A magnetic contact is nothing more than two magnets that are in contact with each other. We place these magnetic contacts at strategic entry points of your home. Think mainly of doors and casement windows.

  • Wireless sirens

There are two options to protect yourself. On the one hand, you can use a wireless siren. As soon as your alarm system identifies an intruder, the siren sounds, causing any intruder to think twice immediately.

The second option is a silent alarm. This increases the chance of catching the intruder, because the police can arrive more discreetly.

We always recommend the 1st option with a siren, especially for homes. We consider your safety more important than increasing the chance of catching an intruder. Do you have business premises where nobody is present? Then we might recommend a silent alarm. To receive specific advice for your situation, please contact our customer service.

Ajax alarm system doorbell

Ajax does not currently have doorbells in its own range. However, intercoms from Dahua are available, which offer the same functionality (an intercom can even do more).

Ajax alarm system installer

We are one of 8 certified Ajax Systems resellers in the Netherlands. Only accredited partners may sell, install and manage the Ajax alarm system.

Ajax Systems only provides a warranty and support on products purchased through an official Ajax installer such as Secures. We have been trained by Ajax Systems itself and passed all tests with flying colours. This is a way to ensure that Ajax Systems can maintain a high standard together with us. Read the full explanation here.

Multiple award-winning alarm system

Eufy alarm system

Eufy has recently expanded into complete alarm systems. Where the focus used to be on cameras, they have now become a broader player in the market. At the moment we only stock Eufy cameras (and a few accessories for them) in our range.

In our view, Ajax Systems, Jablotron and Texecom are better alternatives for a complete alarm system without monthly subscriptions or costs.

Verisure alarm system

Verisure is a company where it seems very difficult to cancel your subscription. The consumer programme Radar carried out an investigation in 2024 after many complaints about cancellation problems.

Verisure goes against our company values. Without a monthly subscription, the Verisure alarm system does not work. We sell stand-alone alarm systems. After this one-off investment, the alarm system is yours and continues to protect you.

We do offer subscriptions, but they are not mandatory. Think of a SIM card, so that you stay online in your home even if the internet goes down. Or an alarm receiving centre subscription. With this, you have a professional alarm receiving centre behind you when your alarm goes off.

No obligations, but peace of mind. Even if you cancel one of the subscriptions above, your alarm system keeps working. Because it is your alarm system and it is about your safety.

We do not value money above your safety. Choose an alarm system through Secures.

Home alarm system

An alarm system for a regular home must meet our standard. And our standard is that you (and your family) are safe in your own home. We do this by providing the highest level of service, and we will not compromise on it for any reason.

Our specialised customer service would like to hear what your security needs are, so that we can put together an alarm system tailored to your home. Whatever your type of home, we already have experience with it. We have already put together, installed and managed thousands of alarm systems.

It is no coincidence that we have more than 1300+ reviews with an average score of 9.8. Become one of our satisfied customers too. Request a quotation directly here or put together your own alarm system here.

Professional home alarm system

Besides the type and brands of alarm systems, there is also an option aimed at the type of person. Options have been developed in particular for people with a disability or of advanced age.

Personal alarm system for the elderly

With the Ajax personal alarm system you can set who receives a notification in the event of a medical emergency. This can be an alarm receiving centre, your family, neighbours or close contacts. This is done with an Ajax Button. This is a small button that you can mount on a table or a bed, or simply carry on your key ring or in your pocket.

We can set up for you who receives a notification from the alarm system as soon as the button is pressed. There are 3 ways to set this up:

  1. Panic button (to get a quick response from a security company)
  2. Help button (for the sick and elderly, panic and medical alarm button)
  3. Ajax control button (a short press and a long press each have their own function).

The button connects to the Ajax Hub, which in turn forwards the notification to the relevant people.

Click on one of the Ajax buttons to read more about it.

Alarm system for the elderly

The Ajax alarm system is therefore suitable as a personal alarm system, but that is only one of the parts the Ajax alarm system offers. There are also plenty of options to turn it into a "regular" alarm system. We do this with:

  • Magnetic contacts give an immediate alert when an opening in your home is opened without authorisation.
  • Motion detection detects movement and immediately sends you a notification.
  • Security cameras let you review what has happened in or around your home.
  • Sirens immediately deter burglars once they have been detected.
  • Fire protection helps protect you against life-threatening situations such as carbon monoxide poisoning or fire (incl. smoke and heat).

Alarm system with camera

An alarm system with a camera ensures that you can always see what is happening in and around your home. With the Ajax alarm system, the cameras and the central control panel communicate via the ONVIF and RTSP protocol. This means that all cameras that support this protocol work with the Ajax alarm system.

Alarm system for cars

The Ajax alarm system is the best way to protect your car. Most components of the Ajax alarm system work wirelessly (and therefore on an internal rechargeable battery / battery). The biggest problem is the central control panel (Ajax Systems Hub 2), which needs a continuous power supply. Here is an explanation of how you can get it working in your car:

  1. Powering the Hub 2 via your car

We replace the standard 110/230V power supply board with the 12V PSU power supply board. This allows us to power the Hub 2 from the car's 12V electrical system (or an external battery). The 12V PSU power supply board accepts an input voltage of 8-20V DC, which makes it well suited to use in your car.

  1. Internet connection in your car

The Ajax Systems Hub 2 needs a stable internet connection. There are few special considerations compared with a regular installation. There are 3 options:

  • Connection via a SIM card

This is the most practical way to get a stable internet connection in your car for an alarm system. By placing a SIM card in the Ajax Hub 2, you always have a stable connection. Even if you are away from your car and no WiFi is available, the system still works and you can operate it remotely via your phone.

  • Connection via WiFi

A mobile hotspot or a WiFi connection (for when you are stationary for a longer period) ensures that your Hub has a continuous connection.

  • Connection via Ethernet

The system can still be connected with an Ethernet cable, but this is for when you stay in one place for a longer period and an internet cable is available to you.

  1. Sensors and other security components

You can install all motion detectors, door sensors and sirens in your car, just as with a normal installation. The sensors connect wirelessly to the Hub 2.

  1. Extra battery back-up

With an external battery (such as the car battery or a dedicated power bank), the alarm system keeps working even when the car is switched off. This keeps your car secured 24/7.

  1. Monitoring

Via the Ajax app you can monitor the system remotely, switch the alarms on and off and receive notifications in real time, whether the car is parked or moving.

Alarm system for a camper

The Ajax alarm system is the ideal solution for securing your camper van. Most components of the Ajax alarm system work wirelessly and are powered by internal batteries. The biggest obstacle is the central control panel (Ajax Systems Hub 2), which needs a constant power supply. Below you can read how to get the Hub 2 working in your camper van:

  1. Powering the Hub 2 from your camper

The standard 110/230V power supply board is replaced by the 12V PSU power supply board. This allows the Hub 2 to be powered from the 12V electrical system of your camper (or from an external battery). The 12V PSU power supply board accepts an input voltage of 8-20V DC, which makes it well suited for use in your camper.

  1. Internet connection in your camper

The Ajax Systems Hub 2 needs a stable internet connection. This can be done in several ways, just as with a standard installation. There are three options:

  • Connection via a SIM card

This is the most practical way to provide a stable internet connection for the alarm system in your camper van. By placing a SIM card in the Ajax Hub 2, the system always stays connected. Even when you are not near your camper van and there is no WiFi, the alarm system keeps working and you can operate it remotely via your phone.

  • Connection via WiFi

If you stay in one place for a longer period, you can connect the Hub 2 to a mobile hotspot or a local WiFi network. This keeps the alarm system connected at all times.

  • Connection via Ethernet

If you are at a fixed location with access to an internet cable, you can also connect the Hub 2 via an Ethernet cable for a stable connection.

  1. Sensors and other security components

Motion detectors, door sensors and sirens can be installed in your camper just as in a regular installation. These sensors connect wirelessly to the Hub 2, so your camper is fully protected.

  1. External battery backup

With an external battery (such as the camper battery or a dedicated power bank), the alarm system stays active even when the camper is switched off. This keeps your camper protected 24/7.

  1. Monitoring

Via the Ajax app you can monitor the system remotely. You can arm and disarm the alarms and receive notifications in real time, whether your camper van is parked or on the road.

With this configuration you can secure your camper van optimally, whether you are at home, on holiday or on the road.

Best alarm system without a subscription

In our opinion, the best alarm system without a subscription is from Ajax Systems. This system requires a one-off investment and offers protection against burglary, fire, smoke, carbon monoxide and water leaks. The system can be expanded with additional options such as an alarm receiving centre or a SIM card for notifications, but this is optional.

Three important factors when choosing an alarm system are:

  • Protection: The system warns you of burglary, fire, smoke, carbon monoxide and water leaks.
  • Security components: Think of magnetic contacts, motion detectors, glass break detection, smoke and CO detectors and water detectors.
  • Notifications: Notifications arrive via the Ajax app on your phone, with options for push notifications, SMS or phone calls.

The system is expandable, wireless, works via WiFi and has no mandatory monthly costs, unless you choose additional services such as an alarm receiving centre or SIM card.

Alarm system with alarm receiving centre

An alarm system with an alarm receiving centre: we strongly support it. But on one condition. Take out an alarm receiving centre subscription separately. We see competitors offering an alarm system with an alarm receiving centre as a subscription. As soon as you cancel the subscription, your alarm system also stops working.

This goes against the core values of Secures. We see it as our task to protect you as well as possible. An alarm receiving centre is an extremely valuable addition here, but the choice remains yours. At Secures you pay a one-off amount for your alarm system. An alarm receiving centre subscription is separate from this.

Do you choose an alarm receiving centre? Then you have a professional service behind you as soon as the alarm goes off. Every alarm is followed up, and as soon as a notification comes in, they take action immediately.

In the case of a verified alert, an alarm receiving centre can even dispatch emergency services for you. This way, you are not alone in an emergency. An alarm receiving centre also tests every 24 hours whether the system is still working.

Alarm system alarm receiving centre costs

At Secures, we make security affordable. When you purchase an Ajax alarm system, you receive 50% discount on your first year.

  • Private customers: 1st year €108,- incl. VAT (then €216,- per year)
  • Business: 1st year €108,- excl. VAT (then €216,- per year)

Alarm system with SIM card

An alarm system with a SIM card ensures that your alarm system is always online. The primary internet connection will always be wired or via WiFi. But what if your connection goes down or is sabotaged? That is when the SIM card comes into its own. The SIM card takes over the internet connection immediately once the other communication channels stop working.

With a backup connection you are better protected and you avoid depending on your home connection.
