Cameras that work together with your alarm
Ajax surveillance cameras are viewed in the Ajax app and work together with your alarm: when an alert comes in, you immediately see what is happening. For indoor and outdoor use, with a sharp image and night vision.

Choosing a camera
Choosing the right Ajax camera
Choose on two points: the shape (where and how you mount it) and the illumination (what the night image looks like).
BulletCam
Elongated camera that visibly points in one direction and acts as a deterrent. For the facade, driveway and property boundary.
TurretCam
Compact outdoor camera without a glass dome, so little trouble from reflection and cobwebs. Can be aimed in many directions.
DomeCam Mini
Flat dome that is barely noticeable and does not reveal from the outside which way it is facing.
Illumination
Infrared, HL or HLVF?
You can choose the BulletCam, TurretCam and DomeCam in three versions. They differ in illumination and lens.
Infrared (basic)
Sharp night vision in black and white with infrared LEDs. The most affordable choice where colour at night is not needed.
HL: hybrid white light
When motion is detected, a white light switches on, so you see in colour at night and the light acts as an immediate deterrent.
HLVF: varifocal
Hybrid illumination plus a motorised lens (2.8-12 mm) that you zoom in and out remotely, with additional AI line crossing detection.
Range
How far can you see? The DORI distance
DORI stands for Detection, Observation, Recognition and Identification. These are four fixed levels from the European standard EN 62676-4. They indicate up to what distance a camera shows enough detail for a given purpose.
Detection
You can see that a person or vehicle is in the image. The standard requires 25 pixels per metre.
Observation
You can see what someone is doing and details such as clothing and build. 62 pixels per metre.
Recognition
You can recognise whether it is someone you have seen before. 125 pixels per metre.
Identification
You can establish who it is. 250 pixels per metre, so the shortest distance.
According to Ajax, the DORI distances depend only on resolution and lens. They therefore apply to the BulletCam, the TurretCam and the DomeCam Mini, with and without HL. More megapixels and a longer lens take each level further away. A 4 mm lens has a narrower view (85° versus 110° at 2.8 mm), but therefore sees further.
| Resolution | Lens | Viewing angle | Detection | Observation | Recognition | Identification |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 5 Mp | 2,8 mm | 110° | 65 m | 26 m | 13 m | 6,5 m |
| 5 Mp | 4 mm | 85° | 86 m | 34,4 m | 17,2 m | 8,6 m |
| 8 Mp | 2,8 mm | 110° | 90 m | 36 m | 18 m | 9 m |
| 8 Mp | 4 mm | 85° | 117,5 m | 47 m | 23,5 m | 11,6 m |
Example: if you want to be able to identify a face at 10 metres from the driveway, choose 8 Mp with a 4 mm lens (identification up to 11.6 m). If you mainly want a wide view of the garden, 2.8 mm gives more overview.
Note in the dark: the DORI distances apply in good light. At night the image reaches only as far as the camera's illumination, and there is a difference between the models in this respect. According to Ajax, this is up to 60 m (5 Mp) or 50 m (8 Mp) for the BulletCam, up to 50 m for the BulletCam HL and the TurretCam (HL), and up to 15 m for the DomeCam Mini (HL). The DomeCam Mini is therefore strongest at close range, such as under a canopy or at the front door. HL does not reach further than infrared, but shows colour at night: the colour of clothing or a car helps with recognition.
For the HLVF models with zoom lens (2.8-12 mm) and for the IndoorCam, Ajax does not state DORI distances. With an HLVF, the range depends on how far you zoom in: at 2.8 mm you see wide (111°), at 12 mm narrow (31°) and much further away. The illumination reaches up to 60 m of infrared and 40 m of white light for the BulletCam HLVF and TurretCam HLVF, and up to 40 m of infrared and 25 m of white light for the DomeCam HLVF.
Questions
Frequently asked questions
Which shape suits which location?
A BulletCam visibly points in one direction and acts as a deterrent (facade, driveway). A TurretCam is versatile and has no dome that reflects. A DomeCam is barely noticeable. For indoors you choose the IndoorCam, and at the front door the DoorBell.
Infrared, HL or HLVF?
Infrared gives black-and-white night vision and is the most affordable option. HL adds white light for night vision in colour. HLVF adds a motorised varifocal lens that you adjust remotely, plus AI line crossing detection.
What is the DORI distance?
DORI gives four distances per camera: how far you can detect, observe, recognise and identify something. The more detail you need, the shorter the distance. An Ajax 8 Mp camera with a 4 mm lens detects up to 117,5 m and identifies up to 11,6 m. The table above lists all versions.
Indoor or outdoor?
BulletCam, TurretCam and DomeCam are weatherproof for outdoor use (and indoors). The IndoorCam is made specifically for indoor use, with a privacy mode.
Do I need an Ajax Hub?
Not for recording. For live viewing, notifications in the Ajax app, visual verification of alarms and transmission to an alarm receiving centre, you connect the camera to an Ajax hub (Hub 2 or higher).
Where do I store the footage?
Locally on microSD or centrally on the Ajax NVR. No subscription, the footage stays with you.
