Ajax TurretCam HLVF: wired IP turret camera with a motorised varifocal lens and hybrid illumination
Set the field of view and zoom remotely with the varifocal lens (2.8-12 mm) and see in colour at night thanks to hybrid white light. With AI object detection, True WDR and 8 MP image. Works with the Ajax app and the Ajax NVR.
The TurretCam HLVF is a wired IP turret camera with a motorised varifocal lens and hybrid illumination that you can use on its own or connect to your Ajax alarm system. This gives you visual verification of alarms: when an Ajax detector raises an alert, the camera automatically records footage, which you can view immediately in the app or at the alarm receiving centre. The footage stays with you, stored locally on microSD or on the Ajax NVR. The compact turret (eyeball) has no glass dome, so it is less affected by reflections and cobwebs. A versatile outdoor camera for façades and canopies. The camera is NDAA-compliant and available in white and black.
Why the TurretCam HLVF
Motorised varifocal lens
Lens from 2.8 to 12 mm with autofocus. You set the viewing angle and zoom remotely from the Ajax app, from a wide overview to a close-up of a face, number plate or door, without moving the camera.
Hybrid lighting (HL)
Infrared up to 60 m and white light up to 40 m. When movement is detected, white light switches on for colour night vision; the intensity adjusts automatically to prevent overexposure.
True WDR 120 dB
Backlight and strong contrasts are balanced, so that a face in the shadow and the sky behind it both remain visible. Image up to 8 MP (4K) at 25 fps.
AI object detection
Recognises people, animals and vehicles and detects line crossing. The analysis runs locally in the camera, so you receive targeted notifications instead of every deliberate movement.
Visual verification of alarms
Connect the camera to your Ajax hub: when an Ajax detector raises an alarm, footage is recorded automatically and you see immediately what is happening, in the Ajax app or at the alarm receiving centre.
Storage on microSD or NVR
Records locally to a microSD card (up to 256 GB, V30) or centrally on the Ajax NVR. No mandatory subscription.
Weatherproof for outdoor use
Robust outdoor housing and operating temperature from -40 to +60 °C. Works all year round on facades, driveways and gardens.
Audio and alarm connections
Built-in microphone plus audio in/out and two alarm lines. Connect an external microphone, speaker or sensor and use the camera as part of your installation.
PoE or 12 V
One network cable for video and power (PoE, 802.3af/at), or separately on 12 V. Easy to connect to the Ajax NVR or an existing network.

TurretCam, TurretCam HL and TurretCam HLVF compared
All three are the same Ajax camera in terms of operation and image quality. They differ in lighting (infrared only or hybrid white light for colour night vision) and in lens (fixed lens or motorised varifocal for zooming in and out remotely).
| Model | Illumination | Lens | Viewing angle | Max. resolution | AI detection | Gates |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| TurretCam | Infrared, black-and-white night vision | Fixed, 2.8 or 4.0 mm | 100-110° (2.8 mm) or 75-87° (4.0 mm) | 8 MP (3840 × 2160) | People, animals, vehicles | Built-in microphone |
| TurretCam HL | Hybrid: white light + infrared, colour night vision | Fixed, 2.8 or 4.0 mm | 100-110° (2.8 mm) or 75-87° (4.0 mm) | 8 MP (3840 × 2160) | People, animals, vehicles | Built-in microphone |
| TurretCam HLVF | Hybrid: white light up to 40 m + infrared up to 60 m, colour | Motorised varifocal 2.8-12 mm | 31° to 111°, adjustable | 8 MP (3840 × 2160) | People, animals, vehicles + line crossing | Microphone + audio and alarm inputs/outputs |
Colour night vision is available on the HL and HLVF versions: they switch on white light as soon as there is movement, so you see colours and details instead of a black-and-white image. The HLVF adds a motorised varifocal lens to this: you set the field of view and zoom remotely from the Ajax app, without moving the camera.
Which TurretCam suits you?
Choose on two points: do you need colour night vision, and do you want to be able to set the viewing angle remotely?
TurretCam
The basic model with infrared illumination. A sharp black-and-white image at night. The most economical choice for surveillance where colour at night is not required. View the TurretCam.
TurretCam HL
Hybrid illumination with white light: on motion the camera switches on white light and you see in colour at night. Fixed lens 2.8 or 4.0 mm. View the TurretCam HL.
TurretCam HLVF
Hybrid illumination plus a motorised varifocal lens (2.8-12 mm): you zoom and frame remotely from the app. Additional AI line crossing detection and audio and alarm connections. View the TurretCam HLVF.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need an Ajax Hub?
Not for recording only on the Ajax NVR or a microSD card. If you want notifications in the Ajax app, visual verification of alarms and forwarding to an alarm receiving centre, connect the camera to an Ajax hub (Hub 2 or higher).
How does the white light work at night?
In the dark, the camera uses infrared. As soon as there is movement, it switches on white light, so that you see in colour and the light acts as an immediate deterrent. The intensity adjusts automatically to prevent overexposure.
What is the advantage of the varifocal lens?
You set the viewing angle and zoom remotely from the app: wide for an overview, or zoomed in on a door, driveway or number plate. You do not need to move the camera or swap the lens, as you would with a fixed lens.
Where do I store the footage?
Locally on a microSD card (up to 256 GB) or centrally on the Ajax NVR. No subscription is required and the footage stays with you.
Can I install it outdoors?
Yes. The turret camera is weather-resistant and operates from -40 to +60 °C. The compact turret (eyeball) has no glass dome, so it is less affected by reflections and cobwebs. A versatile outdoor camera for façades and canopies.
Does the camera work with other systems?
Yes, via ONVIF (Profile S/T) you can connect the camera to common recording systems (VMS). For all functions and the app, use the Ajax ecosystem.
