Coax turret cameras

Open lens, clear night image, over coax

Turret cameras with the lens exposed in an open housing, without a dome that reflects infrared light at night. They work over coax, so that you can reuse existing cabling.

Up to 8 megapixel. Use an XVR to record.

Coax turret cameras

Open lens, clear night image, over coax

A turret camera has the lens sitting loose in an open housing, without the cover that on a dome can sometimes reflect infrared light into the image. These models work over coax cable, so you can reuse existing cabling.

If you prefer to work over the network, see the IP turret cameras.

Where coax fits

What a coax turret offers you

Coax cameras send their image over a coax cable and receive their power from a separate power cable alongside it. If that cabling is already in place from an analogue system, you do not need to pull new cable: you only replace the cameras and the recorder.

The open lens of a turret usually gives a cleaner night image than a dome, because there is no cover in front that can reflect the infrared light. The shape is compact and easy to aim. In this range, the coax cameras go up to 8 megapixel.

To record, you need an XVR, the recorder for coax.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions about coax turret cameras

Can I connect these cameras to my existing cabling?

Yes. If coax cable from an older analogue system is already in place, you can reuse it and replace only the cameras and the recorder.

What is the difference between a turret and a dome?

With a turret, the lens sits loose in an open housing; with a dome, it sits under a cover. The turret generally gives a clearer night image; the dome is less conspicuous and conceals the viewing direction better. Otherwise, see the coax dome cameras.

Which recorder do I need?

For coax cameras you use an XVR. Choose the number of channels based on the number of cameras, with some room for expansion. View the XVR recorders.

Do these cameras work in the dark?

Yes, the turret models have infrared illumination for images in the dark; some also deliver colour images at night with additional lighting. Check the night performance of each model.
