Coax bullet cameras
Visible camera surveillance over coax cable
A bullet camera has a clearly visible cylindrical shape that you aim at a fixed spot, such as a driveway, facade or entrance gate. These models work over coax cable, so you can reuse the existing cabling of an older system.
If you prefer to work over the network, see the IP bullet cameras.
Where coax fits
What a coax bullet gives you
Coax cameras send their image over a coax cable and receive their power from a separate power cable alongside it. If that cabling is already in place from an analogue system, you do not need to pull new cable: you only replace the cameras and the recorder.
The bullet shape stands out deliberately and acts as a deterrent. The visible direction shows which area is in view, and the built-in infrared lighting provides an image in the dark. In this range, the coax cameras go up to 8 megapixel.
To record, you need an XVR, the recorder for coax.
Frequently asked questions
Frequently asked questions about coax bullet cameras
Can I connect these cameras to my existing cabling?
Yes, that is precisely the advantage of coax. If coax cable from an older analogue system is already in place, you can reuse it and replace only the cameras and the recorder.
What is the difference from an IP bullet?
An IP camera works over a network cable, usually with power over that same cable (PoE), and offers a higher resolution. Coax works over coax cable with a separate power lead. If you do not yet have any cabling in place, IP is usually the logical choice.
Which recorder do I need?
For coax cameras you use an XVR. Choose the number of channels based on the number of cameras, with some room for expansion. View the XVR recorders.
Do these cameras work in the dark?
Yes, the bullet models have infrared lighting for black-and-white images in the dark; some models with additional lighting also deliver colour images at night. Check the night performance for each model.
