Ajax range extenders

Extend the range of your Ajax system

The Ajax ReX range extender extends the wireless range between your detectors and the hub. Useful in large buildings, outbuildings, thick walls or distant corners where the signal is otherwise just too weak.

What is an Ajax range extender (ReX)?

A ReX (Range Extender) is a repeater that extends the radio range of your Ajax system. It amplifies the secure communication between the hub and the detectors, so that you can place devices in locations the hub signal does not reach. The ReX runs on OS Malevich and manages the connected devices as an autonomous group, even if the connection to the hub is lost.

How much larger does my range become?

A single range extender covers up to 1,800 metres (ReX) or 1,700 metres (ReX 2) in open space. With five range extenders in a system, you extend the coverage to 35 km². The actual range depends on the walls, floors and obstacles at your location. During installation, the Ajax app shows the signal strength per device, so that you can find the best position.

ReX or ReX 2: which should I choose?

The difference lies in the capabilities and the hub:

  • ReX 2: supports photo verification (MotionCam), has an ethernet port of up to 100 Mbps and works with the Hub 2 generation
  • ReX: uses only the Jeweller protocol, does not support MotionCam, but handles more devices (up to 249) and has a slightly longer radio range

If you have a Hub 2 and use MotionCam detectors, the ReX 2 is the logical choice. For a system without photo verification, the ReX is sufficient.

Does the range extender work with MotionCam detectors?

Only the ReX 2 supports photo verification via the Wings protocol and therefore works with the MotionCam and MotionCam Outdoor. The standard ReX does not relay photos and is intended for systems without MotionCam.

How many range extenders can I combine?

You can add up to 5 ReX or ReX 2 units to a system; the exact maximum depends on your hub model. Together they build a network covering up to 35 km². Each range extender manages its own group of devices, so that stability and delivery speed do not suffer from the size of the system.

Does the range extender take over tasks from the hub?

Yes. The ReX combines the devices into an autonomous group and manages their communication. If the connection to the hub is lost and a detector registers a break-in, the range extender receives the alarm and can activate the siren itself to draw attention to the incident.

Can a ReX run on a battery?

The range extender runs on 110-240 V mains power by default, with a built-in backup battery (up to 35 hours of backup). If you want to run it from a low-voltage source, for example on a boat or off-grid, you can do so with an Ajax power supply module.

Which hub do I need?

The ReX 2 requires a Hub 2 or Hub 2 Plus, as these support the Wings protocol for photo verification. The ReX works with the Ajax hubs. The maximum number of range extenders and devices differs per hub model.
