Coax PTZ cameras
Pan, tilt and zoom over coax
A PTZ camera pans, tilts and zooms remotely, so that you can cover a larger area with a single camera. These models work over coax cable, so that you can reuse existing cabling.
If you prefer to work over the network, take a look at the IP PTZ cameras.
Where coax fits
What a coax PTZ gives you
Coax cameras send their image over a coax cable and receive their power from a separate power cable alongside it. If that cabling is already in place from an analogue system, you do not need to pull new cable: you only replace the cameras and the recorder.
With the optical zoom and the pan and tilt movement, you can follow a large area or zoom in on a detail, such as a driveway with a long approach or a large outdoor area. One PTZ therefore replaces several fixed cameras, but it always looks in one direction at a time. In this range, the coax cameras go up to 8 megapixels.
To record, you need an XVR, the recorder for coax.
Frequently asked questions
Frequently asked questions about coax PTZ cameras
Can I connect these cameras to my existing cabling?
Yes. If coax cable from an older analogue system is already in place, you can reuse it and replace only the cameras and the recorder.
Does one PTZ replace several fixed cameras?
For an overview of a large site, yes, because you can pan, tilt and zoom. Bear in mind that a PTZ camera looks in one direction at a time: anything outside the picture while it zooms in elsewhere is not recorded. For full coverage, you will often combine a PTZ with a few fixed cameras.
Which recorder do I need?
For coax cameras you use an XVR. Choose the number of channels based on the number of cameras, with some room for expansion. View the XVR recorders.
Can the camera track a moving object by itself?
Some of the PTZ models have autotracking and then automatically follow a moving object within their range. Check for each product whether this function is available.
