Choosing a monitor

Which camera monitor do you need?

A camera monitor lets you view live and recorded footage from your security cameras on a separate screen. This is especially practical when camera images need to be visible continuously, for example in a shop, office, reception, alarm receiving centre or security room.

Which monitor is suitable depends mainly on the number of cameras, the desired screen size, the resolution and the way the screen is connected.

Do you use several security cameras? Then a larger display can be useful for showing several camera images clearly at the same time.

CCTV

CCTV monitor for camera surveillance

A CCTV monitor is a display used to view camera footage within a security system. The screen can, for example, be connected to a recorder to which several security cameras are connected.

For IP camera surveillance, an NVR recorder is often used. If you use coax cameras, an XVR recorder can be part of the camera system.

Via the recorder you can view live footage, search recorded footage and show different cameras side by side on the screen.

Applications

Security camera screen for business or home

A security camera screen is especially worthwhile when you do not only want to view camera images on a smartphone or computer, but want to have them permanently visible.

This can be useful for:

  • shops and showrooms;
  • offices and commercial buildings;
  • receptions and entrances;
  • warehouses;
  • security rooms;
  • homes with several security cameras.

For professional use, a larger screen is often chosen, on which several camera images can be clearly displayed at the same time.

Screen size

Which size camera monitor do you choose?

The ideal size depends on the viewing distance and the number of images you want to display at the same time.

For a single camera image, a compact screen may be sufficient. If you want to view four, eight or more cameras at the same time, a larger screen gives a better overview.

Also pay attention to the resolution of the display. If you use 4K surveillance cameras, for example, a UHD screen can help show more detail in the footage.

Connecting

Connecting a camera monitor to a recorder

In professional camera surveillance, a monitor is usually connected to the recorder of the camera system. Many recorders have an HDMI or other video output for this purpose.

The NVR recorder or XVR recorder receives the camera images, stores them and passes them on to the connected screen.

This way you can view several security cameras from one place and search recorded footage.

Multiple screens

Viewing camera footage on several screens

In larger professional camera systems, it may be desirable to show camera footage on several screens. Think of security rooms, business premises or locations with many cameras.

Depending on the camera system, additional components may be needed for this. See our decoders, for example, for solutions that allow video footage to be processed and displayed within larger systems.

Dahua

Monitor for Dahua camera surveillance

Secures offers professional displays and monitor solutions from Dahua. These can be combined with Dahua cameras, recorders and other components in a complete camera system.

In addition to traditional camera surveillance, Dahua also offers screens for digital signage and interactive presentations. This means the displays can be used for various professional applications.

Complete system

Need a camera monitor or a complete camera system?

A monitor is only one part of professional camera surveillance. For a complete system, you combine the screen with suitable security cameras, a recorder and, if needed, network equipment.

View the full range of security cameras and recorders or contact Secures for advice on a suitable combination.

This way, you put together a camera system in which the camera, recorder and monitor work well together.
