Access control
Card readers
A card reader reads a visitor's card or tag and passes it on to an access controller or terminal. The reader does not open a door itself: it belongs to a controller that manages access. Useful, for example, for placing a second reader on the inside of a door.
What to look for
How to choose the right reader
- Card type: IC cards at 13.56 MHz (such as Mifare) or ID cards at 125 kHz. Choose the same type as the rest of your system.
- Connection: via RS-485 or Wiegand. A reader that also supports Wiegand 26 fits more controllers.
- Bluetooth: some readers also let the phone serve as a key.
- Indoor or outdoor: the readers are IP66 and suitable for both; outdoors, apply the supplied kit at the cable entry.
Questions
Frequently asked questions
Does this reader open the door by itself?
No. A reader passes the card on to an access controller or terminal, and that opens the door. If you are looking for a device that controls the door itself, see the terminals or controllers.
Where do I connect the reader?
On a controller or terminal, via RS-485 or Wiegand. Not sure whether it fits your controller? Call or email us with the type.
Which cards work with this?
That depends on the model: IC cards (13.56 MHz) or ID cards (125 kHz). The product page states which type the reader reads.
