Coax dome cameras
Compact and unobtrusive camera surveillance over coax
A dome camera sits in a compact dome that is inconspicuous and difficult to damage. These models work over coax cable, so you can reuse the existing cabling of an older system.
If you prefer to work over the network, take a look at the IP dome cameras.
Where coax fits
What a coax dome offers you
Coax cameras send their image over a coax cable and receive their power from a separate power cable alongside it. If that cabling is already in place from an analogue system, you do not need to pull new cable: you only replace the cameras and the recorder.
The dome shape attracts little attention and is vandal-resistant. From outside, it is also difficult to see which way the camera is facing. This makes the dome suitable for entrances, shops and places where surveillance does not need to be conspicuous. In this range, the coax cameras go up to 8 megapixel.
To record, you need an XVR, the recorder for coax.
Frequently asked questions
Frequently asked questions about coax dome cameras
Can I connect these cameras to my existing cabling?
Yes. If coax cable from an older analogue system is already in place, you can reuse it and replace only the cameras and the recorder.
What is the difference from a turret?
A dome sits under a dome cover, whereas a turret has the lens exposed in an open housing. The dome cover makes the viewing direction less visible from outside, but it can sometimes reflect some infrared light in night recordings. Otherwise, take a look at the coax turret cameras.
Which recorder do I need?
For coax cameras you use an XVR. Choose the number of channels based on the number of cameras, with some room for expansion. View the XVR recorders.
Are dome cameras vandal-resistant?
Most dome models have a sturdy, vandal-resistant dome cover. Check the IK rating per product if impact resistance is important for your situation.
