Ajax BulletCam: wired IP bullet camera with infrared illumination
Sharp 8 MP image with infrared night vision, AI object detection and True WDR. Records to microSD or the Ajax NVR and works with the Ajax app.
The BulletCam is a wired IP bullet camera with infrared lighting that you use on its own or connect to your Ajax alarm system. This gives you visual verification of alarms: when an Ajax detector raises an alert, the camera automatically records footage, which you can view immediately in the app or at the alarm receiving centre. The footage stays with you, stored locally on microSD or on the Ajax NVR. The elongated bullet shape with sun shield clearly points in one direction and acts as a deterrent. Ideal for facades, driveways and property boundaries. The camera is NDAA-compliant and available in white and black.
Why the BulletCam
Smart infrared illumination
Infrared LEDs with automatic intensity control to prevent overexposure. A sharp black-and-white image in the dark, also at a distance.
True WDR 120 dB
Backlight and strong contrasts are balanced, so that a face in the shadow and the sky behind it both remain visible.
AI object detection
Recognises people, animals and vehicles. The analysis runs locally in the camera, so you receive targeted notifications instead of every movement.
Visual verification of alarms
Connect the camera to your Ajax hub: when an Ajax detector raises an alarm, footage is recorded automatically and you see immediately what is happening, in the Ajax app or at the alarm receiving centre.
Storage on microSD or NVR
Records locally to a microSD card (up to 256 GB, V30) or centrally on the Ajax NVR. No mandatory subscription.
Weatherproof for outdoor use
Robust outdoor housing and operating temperature from -40 to +60 °C. Works all year round on facades, driveways and gardens.
PoE or 12 V
One network cable for image and power (PoE), or separately on 12 V. Easy to connect to the Ajax NVR or an existing network.
BulletCam in view
The camera in white and in black.

How far can you see with the BulletCam?
The DORI distance indicates how far the camera provides enough detail to detect something (someone is there), to observe (what they are doing), to recognise (have I seen them before) and to identify (who it is). These are the distances Ajax states for each version.
| Type | Detection | Observation | Recognition | Identification |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 5 Mp, 2.8 mm | 65 m | 26 m | 13 m | 6,5 m |
| 5 Mp, 4 mm | 86 m | 34,4 m | 17,2 m | 8,6 m |
| 8 Mp, 2,8 mm | 90 m | 36 m | 18 m | 9 m |
| 8 Mp, 4 mm | 117,5 m | 47 m | 23,5 m | 11,6 m |
More megapixels and the 4 mm lens take each level further; the 2,8 mm lens has a wider view. The distances apply in good light. In the dark, according to Ajax, the infrared reaches up to 60 m with the 5 Mp version and up to 50 m with the 8 Mp version.
For details on what DORI involves and how the other Ajax cameras compare, see the Ajax cameras.
BulletCam, BulletCam HL and BulletCam HLVF compared
All three are the same Ajax camera in terms of operation and image quality. They differ in lighting (infrared only or hybrid white light for colour night vision) and in lens (fixed lens or motorised varifocal for zooming in and out remotely).
| Model | Illumination | Lens | Viewing angle | Max. resolution | AI detection | Gates |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| BulletCam | Infrared, black-and-white night vision | Fixed, 2.8 or 4.0 mm | 100-110° (2.8 mm) or 75-87° (4.0 mm) | 8 MP (3840 × 2160) | People, animals, vehicles | Built-in microphone |
| BulletCam HL | Hybrid: white light + infrared, colour night vision | Fixed, 2.8 or 4.0 mm | 100-110° (2.8 mm) or 75-87° (4.0 mm) | 8 MP (3840 × 2160) | People, animals, vehicles | Built-in microphone |
| BulletCam HLVF | Hybrid: white light up to 40 m + infrared up to 60 m, colour | Motorised varifocal 2.8-12 mm | 31° to 111°, adjustable | 8 MP (3840 × 2160) | People, animals, vehicles + line crossing | Microphone + audio and alarm inputs/outputs |
Colour night vision is available on the HL and HLVF versions: they switch on white light as soon as there is movement, so you see colours and details instead of a black-and-white image. The HLVF adds a motorised varifocal lens to this: you set the field of view and zoom remotely from the Ajax app, without moving the camera.
Which BulletCam suits you?
Choose on two points: do you need colour night vision, and do you want to be able to set the viewing angle remotely?
BulletCam
The basic version with infrared lighting. A sharp black-and-white image at night. The most economical choice for surveillance where colour at night is not needed. View the BulletCam.
BulletCam HL
Hybrid lighting with white light: on movement, the camera switches on white light and you see in colour at night. Fixed lens 2.8 or 4.0 mm. View the BulletCam HL.
BulletCam HLVF
Hybrid lighting plus a motorised varifocal lens (2.8-12 mm): you zoom and frame remotely from the app. Additional AI line crossing and audio and alarm connections. View the BulletCam HLVF.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need an Ajax Hub?
Not for recording only on the Ajax NVR or a microSD card. If you want notifications in the Ajax app, visual verification of alarms and forwarding to an alarm receiving centre, connect the camera to an Ajax hub (Hub 2 or higher).
Will I see in colour at night?
No, the BulletCam uses infrared and provides a sharp black-and-white image at night. If you want colour night vision, choose the BulletCam HL or BulletCam HLVF with white light.
Where do I store the footage?
Locally on a microSD card (up to 256 GB) or centrally on the Ajax NVR. No subscription is required and the footage stays with you.
Can I install it outdoors?
Yes. The bullet camera is weatherproof and works from -40 to +60 °C. The elongated bullet shape with sun shield clearly indicates a direction and has a deterrent effect. Ideal for facades, driveways and property boundaries.
Does the camera work with other systems?
Yes, via ONVIF (Profile S) you can connect the camera to common recording systems (VMS). For all functions and the app, you use the Ajax ecosystem.
