Ajax FireProtect 2 smoke detector on the living room ceiling with a notification in the Ajax app on the phone

Smoke detectors with alerts on your phone: the Ajax FireProtect 2 explained

Fire detection

A smoke detector that only beeps does not help if you are not at home. The Ajax FireProtect 2 detects smoke, heat and carbon monoxide, sounds the alarm on site with an 85 dB siren and sends a notification to your phone straight away via your Ajax Hub. If one detector is triggered, they all sound the alarm. In this article you can read what is mandatory in the Netherlands, which FireProtect 2 variants are available and how to choose between RB, SB and AC.

In brief

Smart smoke and CO detectors

Notification on your phone

Via the Ajax Hub you receive an immediate push notification, even when you are not at home.

Smoke, heat and CO

Variants for smoke and heat, with or without carbon monoxide detection, and a standalone CO detector.

Interconnected alarm

If one detector is triggered, all detectors in the home sound the alarm at 85 dB.

Up to 10 years of battery life

The SB version has a sealed battery that lasts up to 10 years.

Legislation

Which smoke detectors are mandatory in the Netherlands?

Since 1 July 2022, a smoke detector has been mandatory on every floor of a home, including existing homes. The detector must be placed on an escape route, in practice the hall or landing, and mounted on the ceiling. A carbon monoxide detector is not legally required, but is strongly recommended in rooms with a central heating boiler, geyser, stove or fireplace: CO is odourless and invisible, which is exactly why it is dangerous. With the FireProtect 2 range you cover both risks within your Ajax system.

RB, SB or AC

What do RB, SB and AC mean?

The FireProtect 2 comes in three power versions. RB (replaceable battery) runs on two replaceable CR123A batteries that last up to 7 years; after that you only replace the batteries. SB (sealed battery) has a sealed battery that lasts up to 10 years; the batteries cannot be changed, so at the end of its life you replace the detector. AC connects to mains power, useful where wiring is already in place. Detection and siren are the same in all versions; the difference lies purely in the power supply.

In your system

What does the Ajax Hub add?

Every FireProtect 2 always sounds the alarm on site with its built-in siren. The benefit lies in the link with your Ajax system: via the Hub you receive an immediate notification on your phone, you can see which detector was triggered, and all detectors in the home warn at the same time. This way you hear a fire starting in the attic downstairs in the living room as well, and you also know about it when you are on holiday. If you have an alarm receiving centre subscription, follow-up can also take place there.

Dahua AirShield

Do you have AirShield instead of Ajax?

Fire detection is also available within Dahua AirShield: the AirShield Smoke Detector (photoelectric sensor, siren of 85 to 90 dB) and the AirShield CO Detector with an LCD screen that shows the measured CO level. Both send a notification to your phone via the free DMSS app.

Frequently asked questions

Smoke detectors and CO detection

Are smoke detectors mandatory in my home?
Yes. Since 1 July 2022, a smoke detector has been mandatory on every floor of a home in the Netherlands, including existing homes. Mount the detector on the ceiling along the escape route, usually the hallway or landing.
What is the difference between FireProtect 2 RB and SB?
RB has two replaceable CR123A batteries that last up to 7 years. SB has a sealed battery that lasts up to 10 years; after that you replace the detector. Detection and siren are identical.
Will I receive a notification on my phone when smoke is detected?
Yes, via an Ajax Hub. The detector always sounds the alarm on site with its 85 dB siren; when linked to the Hub, you also receive an immediate push notification in the Ajax app, wherever you are.
Why should I choose a carbon monoxide detector?
Carbon monoxide is odourless and invisible and is produced by incomplete combustion in, for example, a central heating boiler, geyser, stove or fireplace. A CO detector is not mandatory, but is strongly recommended in rooms with such an appliance.
Do all detectors sound the alarm at the same time?
Yes. The FireProtect 2 detectors have an interconnected alarm: if one is triggered, all detectors in the home sound the alarm. This way you hear a fire in the attic in the living room as well.
