Ajax WallSwitch: power relay with consumption metering
The Ajax WallSwitch switches household appliances and lighting on and off wirelessly, and shows energy consumption in the Ajax app or web browser.
Unlike the Relay, the WallSwitch switches the mains supply itself: it sits between the 110/230 V supply and the appliance and opens or closes the circuit on command. This lets you control an appliance remotely and see straight away how much it consumes.
What the WallSwitch does
Switches up to 3 kW
Connects directly to 110/230 V and switches loads up to 3 kW, enough for an appliance that draws a lot of power.
Consumption in the app
Records and shows the power consumption of the connected appliance in the Ajax app, so you keep track of it.
Remotely and via scenarios
Switch manually in the app or automatically via a schedule or scenario, for example when the alarm is armed or disarmed.
Quick to install
Paired with the hub in less than a minute. For mounting in the meter cupboard, the Ajax DIN Holder fits.
Relay, WallSwitch or Socket?
Three ways to switch power with Ajax. If you want to simply switch a 230 V appliance on and off with consumption insight, the WallSwitch is usually the most convenient choice. If you need a free, potential-free contact (also for DC or separate circuits), choose the Relay.
| Model | Type | Switching 230 V | Measure consumption | Power supply | Mounting | Ideal for |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Relay | Potential-free dry contact | Yes, up to 13 A (resistive) | No | Own 7-24 V DC (separate) | Free wiring | Gate, lock, roller shutter, free circuit |
| WallSwitch | Inline power relay | Yes, inline up to 3 kW | Yes, in the app | From the 230 V line | Inline in the line | Switching and measuring a fixed appliance |
| Socket | Smart plug | Yes, plug-in appliances up to 3 kW | Yes, LED indication | From the wall socket | Plug in, no installation | Individual appliance via the plug |

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference from the Relay?
The WallSwitch sits in line with the 230 V circuit, switches up to 3 kW and measures consumption in the app. The Relay is a potential-free (dry) contact that you wire freely (also for DC or separate circuits) and that needs its own 7-24 V DC supply, without consumption measurement. If you want to switch a 230 V appliance simply and with insight into consumption, choose the WallSwitch.
How much power can I switch?
Up to 3 kW at 110/230 V. That is more than enough for most household appliances and lighting groups.
Does this work without a hub?
No. The WallSwitch works with an Ajax hub and is operated via the Ajax app.
