Dahua AirShield is a wireless alarm system that you operate yourself via the free DMSS app, with no mandatory subscription. What sets it apart: it works closely with Dahua cameras and video intercoms, so an alarm notification immediately provides video. This way you can see straight away whether something is really wrong. Below you can read how it works, what it costs and who it is suitable for.
Why AirShield stands out
Wireless
Detectors and hub communicate wirelessly on 868 MHz, operated in the free DMSS app.
No subscription
Management and operation are free. You take out alarm receiving centre monitoring separately if you want it.
Works with cameras
Deeply integrated with Dahua cameras and video intercoms: alarm and video reinforce each other.
Long range
Up to 2,000 metres in open field, with good wall penetration on 868 MHz.
Encrypted
AES128 with rotating keys and frequency hopping against interference and jamming.
Expandable
Up to 150 wireless devices on one hub. Start small and grow with it.
How does AirShield work?
The heart of the system is the hub. It monitors wireless detectors such as motion detectors, magnetic contacts and sirens, and stays in contact with the DMSS app on your phone. Detectors and hub communicate with each other over the 868 MHz band. This low frequency penetrates walls, floors and ceilings better than the 2.4 GHz used by many Wi-Fi devices, with a range of up to 2,000 metres in open field. As a result, you keep a stable connection even in a large house, a barn or an outbuilding, usually without extra signal boosters.
The connection is secured. All communication is AES128 encrypted with keys that change constantly, and the system automatically switches between frequencies (frequency hopping). This keeps the connection stable in the event of interference and makes it difficult to block the signal deliberately. Because hub and detector confirm each other's messages in both directions, the hub immediately notices tampering, a weak battery or a device going offline.
Why AirShield works together with your cameras
This is where AirShield sets itself apart from a standalone alarm. It works together with the wide range of Dahua cameras and video intercoms, from bullet, turret and dome cameras to PTZ, and from door stations (VTO) to indoor stations (VTH). This cooperation works both ways.
Alarm triggers video
If a detector is triggered, the system immediately pulls up the video from the linked camera in the app.
Video triggers alarm
If a camera detects a line crossing or a person in a zone, AirShield responds accordingly. WizSense AI limits false alarms.
Visual verification
A PIR-Cam detector takes photos on motion, which appear in the app within seconds. This prevents unnecessary call-outs.
Do you need a subscription?
No. You operate and manage AirShield for free in the DMSS app, without a mandatory subscription. If you want someone to watch and take action 24 hours a day in the event of an alarm, you take out a separate alarm receiving centre service (ARC) for that. AirShield is suitable for this, but it is not a requirement for using the system.
Can you install AirShield yourself?
Yes. Because the system is wireless, you simply mount the detectors and enrol them via the app, without any breaking or chasing work. During the first installation, the hub sets up its own Wi-Fi access point (AP Mode), so you can carry out the configuration even if no network is available yet. If you would rather have it installed and set up for you, our VEB-approved installers will do that for you.
Which hub suits you: Hub 2 or 4G Hub 2?
Both hubs are identical in security and capabilities. The difference lies in the internet connection.
| Hub 2 | 4G Hub 2 | |
|---|---|---|
| Internet | Wi-Fi and network cable | Wi-Fi, network cable and mobile 4G |
| Backup if the internet goes down | No | Yes, switches over to 4G |
| Recommended if | There is always a stable network | The security must never fail |
Note both hubs have a built-in backup battery that keeps the system active for up to 12 hours in the event of a power failure.
Does the system grow with you?
Yes. You can connect up to 150 wireless devices to one hub, so you start small and expand later with additional detectors, sirens, keypads or cameras. The software also stays up to date: through wireless cloud updates (OTA) you update not only the hub remotely, but every connected device. Each device runs on two firmware systems, one active and one spare, so a failed update never renders a device unusable.
Who is AirShield suitable for?
AirShield suits homes and businesses that want to combine wireless intruder protection with camera images, without being tied to a subscription. If you already have Dahua cameras or a video intercom, the added value is greatest: alarm and video then work as one system. If you want to start small, a starter kit is the quickest route. If you want to match the system precisely to your situation, you can put together a system yourself.
