Ajax CurtainCam Outdoor HighMount PhOD: narrow outdoor detection with photo verification
A wireless outdoor curtain detector that you mount high, at 2 to 4 metres, and that sends photos immediately in the event of an alarm. It monitors a narrow strip 15 metres long, such as a facade, an access path, a fence or a row of windows.
Where a regular outdoor detector covers a wide area, the CurtainCam Outdoor HighMount looks along a line like a curtain: the alarm zone is only 7 degrees wide horizontally. A PIR sensor and a microwave sensor must both see movement before it raises the alarm. The camera already starts taking photos in the wider pre-alarm zone, so that on the images you see who is approaching and not only who is already standing there.
Why the CurtainCam Outdoor HighMount
Narrow curtain up to 15 m
The alarm zone is 7 degrees wide and up to 15 metres long. Ideal for monitoring a facade or a walking route without including the street or your neighbours' garden.
Photos from the pre-alarm
In the wider pre-alarm zone (43 degrees) the camera already starts taking photos. It only raises the alarm when someone walks into the narrow main zone.
Two technologies, fewer false alarms
Two PIR sensors and a 24 GHz microwave sensor must all see movement. Together with SmartDetect and temperature compensation, this keeps the alarm reliable.
Also in the dark
Infrared illumination and HDR provide usable photos, both in low light and in strong backlight.
Made for outdoor use
IP55 housing with a supplied hood against rain and snow. Operates from -25 to +60 °C.
Battery or fixed power supply
Up to 3 years on six pre-installed CR123A batteries. If you connect 12 to 24 V, the batteries become the backup power supply.

Mounted high, aimed precisely along the line
Mount the detector with the supplied SmartBracket and the swivel bracket at a height of 2 to 4 metres, against a facade or under a roof edge. The bracket rotates 87 degrees, so that you place the curtain precisely along the facade, path or fence. Aim the detector so that an intruder has to walk across the curtain, not straight towards it: it then detects best. Use the supplied screws and wall plugs for a fixed mounting and fit the cover. The batteries are already installed, so you pair it with your hub in one click via the Ajax app.
Preventing false alarms outdoors
Even with two technologies, an outdoor detector reacts to real movement in its zone. Swaying branches, laundry on the line or a flapping cover can trigger a notification. This is how you keep the number of unwanted alarms low:
Not freely accessible
Place the curtain over a part of your grounds that is not freely accessible to others, and not over the pavement, the street or your neighbours' property.
Keep the zone clear
Keep the strip clear of moving vegetation, hanging laundry and loose objects such as covers and flags.
Correct mounting height
Keep to a mounting height of 2 to 4 metres and set the sensitivity (three levels) appropriately.
This detector has no pet immunity. If pets walk through the zone, they may trigger an alarm.

Which outdoor detector suits you?
Narrow strip with photos
The CurtainCam Outdoor HighMount (this page) monitors a facade or path and sends photos.
Wide area with photos
If you want to see an entire site from a high mounting position, choose the MotionCam Outdoor HighMount PhOD.
Curtain without camera
Only a curtain, without photos: the Curtain Outdoor, the smaller Curtain Outdoor Mini or the double-sided DualCurtain Outdoor.
No suitable hub yet?
For the photos you need a Hub 2 (4G), Hub 2 Plus or Hub BP. Or start with the StarterKit 2 Plus.
Frequently asked questions about the CurtainCam Outdoor HighMount
When is it available?
The CurtainCam Outdoor HighMount is new from Ajax and will arrive soon. You can already order it now; we deliver as soon as it is in stock. If you want to know when that will be, please contact us.
What is the difference from the MotionCam Outdoor HighMount?
You mount both at 2 to 4 metres and both send photos. The MotionCam Outdoor HighMount monitors a wide area with two PIR sensors. The CurtainCam monitors a narrow strip of 7 degrees and uses a microwave sensor in addition to PIR. This makes it suitable for a facade, path or fence where you do not want to see anything else.
What does the pre-alarm zone do?
Around the narrow main zone lies a wider zone of 43 degrees. If someone enters it, the camera already takes photos, but no alarm is raised yet. Only when that person walks into the main zone do you receive an alarm, with the photos of the approach included.
Which hub do I need?
The CurtainCam works with a Hub 2 (2G or 4G), Hub 2 Plus, Hub BP or Superior Hub Hybrid. It does not work with the older Hub (2G) and Hub (4G). If it is mounted far from the hub, a ReX 2 extends the range.
Is it pet-friendly?
No, this detector has no pet immunity. If pets walk through the strip it monitors, they can trigger an alarm.
How long do the batteries last?
Up to three years on the six pre-installed CR123A batteries. You can also connect it to a fixed 12 to 24 V power supply; the batteries then act as a backup. The Ajax app warns you well in advance when replacement is needed.
