AirShield Outdoor Curtain PIR: an invisible line along your façade
The AirShield Outdoor Curtain PIR does not cover a space but a strip. A narrow beam of 8 degrees reaches 5 to 12 metres, exactly along a facade, a window area or a path. This lets you detect someone walking along the house or approaching a window, while the rest of the garden stays out of view.
The detector (Dahua ARD2631E-W2(868)) combines passive infrared with 24 GHz microwave radar. An alarm is only raised when both detect movement. The radar also records the track of a target, with distance, speed and angle, and so filters out movement that does not resemble a person.
It works wirelessly on two CR123A batteries (4.2 years at one alarm per day), has an IP65 housing with a sun shield and reports it if someone tries to cover it.
Why the AirShield Outdoor Curtain PIR
Narrow beam of 8 degrees
Monitors a line of 5 to 12 metres along the façade or a window area, not the whole garden. You set the range in the app and the sensitivity in three levels.
Infrared and radar combined
Passive infrared detects body heat, while the 24 GHz radar tracks the distance, speed and angle of whatever is moving. Both must trigger before a notification is sent.
Anti-masking and tamper protection
The detector warns you if someone tries to cover or open it. The material and distance of the cover determine whether it notices.
Can be mounted low or high
At 0.8 to 1.3 m or at 2 to 2.4 m, with a switch for the setting. Two detectors back to back monitor both sides of a door or window.

Curtain detector or standard outdoor detector?
If you want to protect a line along a facade, a window section or a footpath, choose the Outdoor Curtain PIR. If you want to cover an open area such as a driveway or garden, the Outdoor PIR is a better fit, or the Outdoor PIR-Cam if you also want images.
| Model | Detection area | Range | Camera | Protection | Mounting height |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Outdoor Curtain PIR | Narrow strip, 8 degrees | 5 to 12 m | No | IP65 | 0.8 to 1.3 m or 2 to 2.4 m |
| Outdoor PIR | Wide plane, approx. 90 degrees | Up to 15 m | No, can be expanded with the PIR-Cam Module | IP66 | 0.8 to 1.3 m |
| Outdoor PIR-Cam | Wide plane | Up to 15 m | Yes, built in | IP66 | 0.8 to 1.3 m |
All three combine passive infrared with microwave radar, work wirelessly on 868 MHz with two-way communication and AES128, and pair with the AirShield hub.
Notifications and expansion
An immediate notification in the DMSS app
As soon as the curtain detector is triggered, the AirShield hub sends a push notification to your phone. In the free Dahua DMSS app you see which detector it was and you can also adjust the detection range. No subscription, on iPhone and Android.
No AirShield system yet?
This curtain detector works with the wireless AirShield hub from Dahua. Put your system together with the configurator, or have everything installed by our VEB-approved installers.
Frequently asked questions
How does a curtain detector differ from a standard outdoor detector?
In the shape of the protected area. A standard outdoor detector such as the Outdoor PIR looks broadly across a driveway or garden. This detector looks along a narrow strip of 8 degrees along the facade, so that you notice someone approaching and not what moves at the back of the garden.
Will it trigger because of rain, wind or a swaying branch?
That is what the two technologies are for. Infrared and radar must both detect it, and the radar follows the path of the movement. This filters out a lot, but no outdoor detector is completely insensitive to its surroundings. Adjust the range and sensitivity on site and walk through the zone once after installation.
Can I protect a door on both sides?
Yes. Mount two detectors back to back and you cover the passage on the left and right of a door or window.
At what height should I mount it?
There is a switch for low mounting (0.8 to 1.3 m) and high mounting (2 to 2.4 m). The height affects the detection range. Mount it firmly to the wall with screws and wall plugs.
Will the detector react to my pet?
Pet immunity helps to limit false alarms caused by small animals, but it is not a guarantee. Dahua specifies animals below 60 cm and up to approximately 18 kg when mounted at 2.4 m; if you mount the detector lower, that limit shifts. An animal that jumps onto a low wall, bench or window sill will still enter the beam.
How long do the batteries last?
Dahua states 4.2 years on two CR123A batteries, based on one alarm per day. When the battery is low, you receive a notification in the app.
