The Ajax Hub is the brain of your Ajax alarm system. The central hub is the starting point of the security system and can be expanded with numerous accessories. In this article you will learn what the differences are between the various Ajax hubs and which one is most suitable for your situation.

But first, let us look at which Ajax hubs are available:

Overview of differences between the Ajax hubs

Differences between Ajax Hubs

Read on below for the individual features of each Ajax hub and the specific differences.

Ajax Hub 2 Plus

The Ajax Hub 2 Plus is the most comprehensive central hub from Ajax. In terms of communication channels there is ample choice: Ethernet, WiFi and 2 SIM cards supporting 2G, 3G & 4G (LTE).

With support for 200 devices and 100 cameras, you can secure and monitor every blind spot and corner of the building. With 5 range extenders, you considerably increase the range. The Ajax Hub 2 Plus is particularly suitable for professional monitoring. You can link as many as 200 users to the system and create 64 unique automation scenarios. Examples include preventing water leaks and controlling lighting, automatic doors and roller shutters. By applying these scenarios, you make the premises more secure and give intruders the impression that someone is present, which deters them. In addition, the Ajax Hub 2 Plus supports visual verification via the Ajax MotionCam.

In summary: the Ajax Hub 2 Plus offers the most extensive system and is highly suitable for securing large premises.

The Ajax Hub 2 Plus with 12/24 volt is specifically suitable for use on boats, caravans, campers, lorries or holiday accommodation.

Ajax Hub 2

The Ajax Hub 2 supports up to 100 connected devices. This is the same number as the Ajax Hub, but unlike its predecessor, more cameras (up to 25) and range extenders (up to 5) can be connected. Connect up to 50 users to your alarm system. In terms of automation scenarios, a maximum of 32 unique scenarios is supported.

Visual verification is supported from the Ajax Hub 2 onwards (and in the Plus series). An Ajax MotionCam is required for this. Visual verification sends photos to your phone within 9 seconds. There is no need to worry about false alarms, as the Ajax SmartDetect software filter rules out false alarms. Ajax Systems has also taken pets into account.

The communication channels are 2 SIM cards (2G on the 2G variant, 2G/3G/4G on the 4G variant) and wired internet (Ethernet). The Ajax Hub 2 cannot connect to WiFi.

The Ajax Hub 2 is available in 2 variants: the Ajax Hub 2 (2G) and the Ajax Hub 2 (4G). The only difference between these hubs is the mobile connectivity. The Ajax Hub 2 (4G) can upload the photo verification faster, so you receive the notification sooner.

There is also the Ajax Hub 2 with 12/24 volt. This is suitable for boats, caravans, campers, lorries or holiday homes.

Ajax Hub Plus

The Ajax Hub Plus is the big brother of the Ajax Hub. The Ajax Hub Plus supports up to 150 devices, which is 50 more than its predecessor. Up to 50 cameras or DVRs can be connected. The Ajax Hub Plus is suitable for large buildings, warehouses and other large commercial spaces. Up to 5 range extenders can be paired, which considerably increases the potential range.

On the Ajax Hub Plus you can add up to 99 users, ranging from fellow occupants to employees, the alarm receiving centre or other security services: there is ample capacity to add users. With 25 security groups you always have enough room to add an extra group. This is useful in case the property to be protected becomes larger still.

Use one of the 64 automation scenarios to operate the Ajax alarm system the way you want. Think of scenarios such as:

  • Alarm response type
  • Changed security mode response
  • Scheduled actions
  • Comfort scenarios
  • Automatic doors and roller shutters
  • Lighting control
  • Automated ventilation
  • Switching off power after a fire
  • Switching heating on or off automatically

In summary: the Ajax Hub Plus offers additional connection options, including additional devices, cameras, range extenders, users, security groups, scenarios and communication channels. These extended capabilities make the system highly scalable and suitable for larger homes, offices and other premises.

Please note: the Ajax Hub Plus is no longer available separately. For a comparable or more extensive system, look at the Ajax Hub 2 or the Ajax Hub 2 Plus.

Ajax Hub

The Ajax Hub is the entry-level model. This hub has 2 connection options: 2G and Ethernet. We recommend connecting the hub via Ethernet and using a 2G M2M SIM card as a back-up. Up to 100 devices can be connected to the Ajax Hub. For a regular user, this means that more than enough magnetic contacts, motion sensors, fire detection and/or other security devices can be added. Up to 10 cameras or digital video recorders (DVRs) can be connected. If you want to add more than 10 video recording devices to your system, you will need a different Ajax Hub. A maximum of 1 range extender can be connected to this Hub. For regular homes, apartments or office buildings this is not necessary.

The Ajax Hub supports up to 50 users. These users can be paired via the app or can use, for example, the Ajax tags. The Ajax Hub does not support visual verification of alarms and can be paired with a maximum of one range extender. Security scenarios can be programmed in the Ajax Hub; the standard version allows 5 automation scenarios to be set up.

In summary: for regular homes and security systems, the Ajax Hub is highly suitable. In terms of specifications, there is one standard Ajax Hub available. The available colours are white and black. View the Ajax Hub.

Please note: the Ajax Hub has had its day in the Netherlands. In the Netherlands, 2G connectivity is slowly being phased out. Ajax Systems no longer develops new features for the Ajax Hub. Only security issues and bugs are still being fixed. Not all Ajax components (such as the Ajax MotionCam, KeyPad Plus, FireProtect 2 & LightSwitch) are compatible with the standard Ajax Hub.

Ajax Hub Hybrid

The Ajax Hub Hybrid is a hybrid control panel suitable for both wireless and wired connections. It is the first Ajax control panel to support both Jeweller and Fibra Ajax security components. Thanks to the wired connection, the Ajax Hub Hybrid is suitable for buildings, premises and warehouses of all sizes. There are 8 separate lines available for connecting wired Fibra devices, where each line works independently and can be connected over a distance of up to 2 km.

The Hub Hybrid has a built-in backup battery, so it keeps working during a power failure. The Hub Hybrid can support 30 wired devices for up to 60 hours. Wireless devices connected to it run on batteries and therefore need no additional power supply.

The Ajax Hub Hybrid is available in two variants: 2G and 4G. The Ajax Hub Hybrid 4G supports 2G, 3G and 4G networks.

Please note: the Ajax Hub Hybrid is available only through certified Ajax Systems partners and must not be installed by end users. Please contact us for a tailor-made quotation.

What is the difference between the Ajax Hub 2 2G and 4G?

The main difference between the Ajax Hub 2 2G and 4G is the mobile connectivity. With photo verification, the 4G hub uploads photos faster than the 2G hub. Otherwise, both hubs have the same functionality and specifications and differ only in the mobile networks they support. The Ajax Hub 2 2G supports only 2G mobile networks for communication, whereas the Ajax Hub 2 4G supports 2G, 3G and 4G networks. With the Ajax Hub 2 4G you therefore have wider coverage and more flexibility when choosing the mobile network for communication with the alarm system.

Please note: some providers, such as KPN, will no longer support 2G from 2025.
