OS Malevich 2.12: full control over hub communication and more features for Ajax sirens

With the OS Malevich 2.12 update, Ajax sirens can warn you when a door is opened while the security system is disarmed, which is useful in a shop or private home.

New parameters allow more flexible configuration of notifications about entry and exit delays, including those occurring in Night Mode, so that sleeping families are not disturbed.

The new firmware will also improve the fire alarm system and allow you to configure notifications about the loss of communication with the Ajax Cloud via one of the channels (cellular, Ethernet or Wi-Fi).

In the service settings of a hub, you can now select specific communication channels over which a lost or disabled connection must be reported. You can set a delay of up to 30 minutes for such a notification. This functionality not only improves users' control over the communication of the security system, but can also generate an alarm confirmation for the monitoring station of a security company.

The blue bell (doorbell function)

The Chime function allows you to use an Ajax siren with an opening sensor as an equivalent of a shop bell. It alerts shop staff that a customer has entered or, in a private home, that someone has come in through the back door.

The sound of the siren alert is short and different from that of the alarm, and the volume can be adjusted via the app. You can choose from 4 alert signals, so you can hear which door has been opened. After you switch on the Chime function, the blue bell icon appears in the Ajax app, indicating the status of the function. You can switch it off temporarily with a tap.

The Chime function is available for sirens with the following firmware versions:

• HomeSiren — 5.55.1.0 and later
• StreetSiren — 3.73.1.10 and later

The function for Daniel

Last year, Ajax received several requests from Ajax users via Facebook and Trustpilot about siren alerts in Night Mode. One of the first came from Daniel Christiansson from Denmark, who did not like the siren waking his children when Night Mode was activated. Daniel, we have listened to you!

In the siren settings, alerts for the activation of Night Mode and delays are now separated: one for entry and one for exit. You can also set the volume for these alerts. No more irritating beeps at night.

You can adjust the siren notification settings regardless of the firmware version.

Alarm signals in the event of a fire in a multi-storey apartment building

At the request of our Norwegian partner Elotec, with whom we carried out a project last year to protect the UNESCO World Heritage site in Bergen, we continue to improve the interconnected FireProtect detector alarm.

The function saves lives by alerting everyone in the building through the buzzers built into the fire detectors when one of the detectors detects a fire. It ensures that people can be evacuated before the fire spreads quickly through the building.

In an apartment building, however, the interconnected alarm has a drawback. Suppose the residents are frying a steak in an apartment and cause a false alarm. To prevent false alarms from reaching the other detectors in all the other apartments, residents can delay the interconnected alarm. But it still poses a risk to the whole building, because a single user assesses whether the alarm is genuine. And human influence must be kept to a minimum.

The problem has been solved in OS Malevich 2.12. The user can now only mute the detectors in the same group, which is the user's own apartment, without affecting the detectors in other apartments. The user only assesses whether a fire alarm in their own apartment is genuine, and if there is danger for the other residents, the interconnected alarm will warn them. If a false alarm triggers an interconnected alarm in all apartments, only the system administrator can mute the alarm.
