What comes in addition to the stations
An intercom with an outdoor station and an indoor station is not yet complete. It needs an enclosure, there must be a power supply, and with two wires a switch goes in the meter cupboard. Those parts are grouped here.
If you do not know what you are still missing, tell us which stations you have chosen and how the cables run, and we will complete the list.
Housing
Surface-mount, flush-mount and rain hood
Every outdoor station needs an enclosure, and it differs per model. There are three types:
- Flush-mount: a box that you build into the wall, after which the station sits flush in it. The neat solution for new builds.
- Surface-mount: a box on the wall, for when chiselling is not an option.
- Rain hood: a small canopy above the station. Needed as soon as there is no canopy or overhang above it.
With modular setups you choose the enclosure by the number of units, and you need to check the colour: silver and black are separate items. There are also angled surface-mount boxes, so that the camera captures the visitor better when the station is next to the door.
Power supply
The right voltage is not a detail
Which power supply you need depends on the system. Two values are the most common, and they are not interchangeable:
- 48 volt: for the 2-wire switch, which also powers the stations with it. There is a 1.25 A version and a 5 A version.
- 12 volt: for standalone stations that are not on PoE or on the 2-wire line.
With the 2-wire switch, the current determines how many devices you can connect: with 1.25 A that is six indoor stations and one outdoor station, with 5 A twenty indoor stations and two outdoor stations. A 24 volt power supply does not work in this system.
The switch
The heart of a 2-wire system
If you use existing doorbell wiring of two cores, a 2-wire switch goes in the meter cupboard. It puts the IP traffic and the 48 volts on the two wires, so the stations can manage with one pair of cores.
Bear in mind that the network ports of this switch are standard network ports and do not supply PoE. An outdoor station that you connect via a network cable therefore needs its own power supply or a PoE injector.
Questions
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a rain hood?
Yes, if there is no canopy, overhang or porch above the station. Otherwise rain running down the front ends up on the camera and the buttons. If the station is under a roof, you can leave it out.
Which power supply suits my setup?
Count the number of stations. Up to six indoor stations and one outdoor station, the 48 volt power supply of 1.25 A is sufficient; above that, or if you want to be able to expand, take the 5 A. If in doubt, send us your setup.
Is a DIN rail included with the switch or the power supply?
No. The switch and the rail-mounted power supply fit a standard 35 mm rail, but you buy that rail separately.
Does an enclosure for one model fit another?
Usually not. The enclosures are made to fit a specific series and the description lists the matching models. If in doubt, tell us the type of your station.
Does the door opener belong here too?
We do not sell that as an intercom part. The outdoor station can control an electric lock and has an output for it, but the lock itself belongs to the door hardware.
